Waterfest 12 Rant
First off, great mag. I really enjoy the Readers' Rides and comments. Now here's my rant: I've loved VWs and Euros for as long as I can remember. There were two main reasons I got into VWs back in the day (besides the awesome cars). First was the laidback community/family. Secondly, back then a modified Euro was unique.

But at Waterfest, I had an epiphany while wading through the sea of booths, $100k show cars, 17 year-olds criticizing cars for not having enough ICE or power, and scantly clad models. I realized that somebody could just take out the Euros and drop in a bunch of Hondas, and I would've been at a NOPI event!

Sure I'm exaggerating a bit, and there is nothing wrong with half-naked women, $100k cars and more tuners/products when you look at each of them individually. But put 'em all together and whammy! We look just like all the Honda guys we've spent the past 15 years trying to differentiate ourselves from.

I guess I'm just a cranky old man (26) and even though I'll always love VWs and Euros, I think we need to evaluate what our scene is about and remember what makes our culture different and better.

Keep up the good work and I guess I've made my old man proud. Damn kids!

Damn, you are cranky. Take out the Hondas and replace them with Mustangs and it could be a domestic show. What's your point? A car show is a car show, but this one has the cars and products we like. What would make it more Euro - men in leather shorts?

I'm going to apply the "some people are never happy" theory to this one. Waterfest is a great show. There's nothing else like it in the entire USA for VW enthusiasts, and we should be grateful for it. I'm sure it could be improved, but it could also be a damn sight worse. Give our regards to your father.

Getting a Brazilian
I used to subscribe to et when I was living in New York. I took most of the ideas to work on my own project from your mag, and now that I'm back in Brazil my car is almost finished. So I wanted to share it with you guys.

Some of the main features are a custom sheet metal widebody, staggered RH wheels with powdercoated centers on stretched Toyo tires, shaved bumpers, doors, trunk and antenna, molded skirts, front and rear spoilers, molded M3 lip, Porsche brakes, custom trunk blend, turbocharged and intercooled 2.0 (only motor for us), Audi A3 Recaros, blue Italian leather interior, RS4 Sprint blue pearl paint, the list goes on and on.

I know none of this is new to you guys, but down here there's nothing like it. It's the only widebody Bora in the country!

First Car
I've been a reader for several years after my parents purchased an Audi A4 the year it came out and traded it in for a new one last year. I was amazed at the power of that car.

Recently my dad purchased my first car for a grand; a poor excuse for a Volkswagen. I unfortunately can't drive it yet because it has several major problems and I have a lack of funds to repair them.

I currently have no a/c or headliner, my stereo is probably the worst I've heard since William Hung, the speedo stays at zero while the car is going who knows how fast, it definitely needs new paint, the left side mirror is made of distorted plastic, and my left blinker pulses with the car's speed.

So I was wondering if there'd be anything you could do for it? The poor thing needs some love and help.
