Rieger Widebody Styling Meets RMS Supercharged Performance
Photography by Wes Allison
When it comes to European car tuning nothing beats a BMW. Backing me up on this bold performance statement is Bonita, California, resident Kenny Law, owner of this 95 BMW. Im certain no one will argue the fact that this Dakar Yellow M3 looks the part, sounds the part, and performs the part of a top tuner car with some 475 hp on tap at the crank, a widebody aero styling package and high-end audio upgrade. Lets take a closer look.
With a lift of the hood, one is exposed to BMWs tried-and-true 3.0L inline six-cylinder M3 engine. In stock trim the engine is capable of producing 240 hp; add forced-induction in the form of an RMS Stage II supercharger package and horsepower figures skyrocket. Toss in a host of other go-fast goodies, some of which include 36-pound fuel injectors, racing header, custom big-bore throttle body, water injection, and an air-to-water intercooler, and this car is not only fast, but reliable. Dressing up the engine bay is a custom Candy Yellowpainted carbon-fiber valve cover and injector/fuel rail cover from Dinan. Transferring the newfound performance to the ground is an Active Autowerke LTW flywheel, Sachs Sport clutch, Rogue Engineering short shifter, and BMW Motorsport 3.15 LSD.
Suspension-wise, Kennys BMW rests on Bilsteins latest PSS9 adjustable coilover setup, which allows for both compression and rebound tuning. Assisting in the handling department is Eibach front and rear sway bars combined with an Active Autowerke front strut brace. To bring the Bimmer to a quick stop, Kenny has improved upon the factory M3 braking system with the addition of Brembo cross-drilled rotors, Goodridge stainless steel lines, and Axxis Metal Master brake pads. Crowning the chassis modifications is a phat set of 19-inch HRE 547 wheels wrapped in equally phat Yokohama AVS rubber.
This Bimmer means business inside as well thanks to an AutoPower rollbar, Auto Meter carbon-faced gauges, and MOMO Millennium steering wheel. Kenny has also improved upon the factory audio system with the addition of high-end gear from Pioneer, Directed, and JL Audio. Located in the dash is Pioneers motorized AVX-P7000 wide-screen LCD monitor fed by a Pioneer CDX-P1270 six-disc CD changer and XDV-PG six-disc DVD changer. Powering the system is a Directed 1100D amplifier wired with Phoenix Gold connects. Listening enjoyment is concluded with JL Audio speakers installed throughout, featuring three 10W7 subs located in the trunk floor.
Last but certainly not least is the exterior appointments on Kennys BMW. Coming from the factory in the shade of Dakar Yellow, Kenny has widened things up thanks to Rieger Tuning.
Included in the Infinity II aero styling package is replacement front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and ultrawide fender flares. Also added to the mix are a custom Candy Yellowpainted DTM Autohaus carbon-fiber hood and trunk-mount wing. As expected, Euro-spec lighting has also been installed. Now that you know what Kennys Bimmer is all about, Im sure youll agree it tops the list of tuner creationsat least for this month!
