Many people thought BMW was crazy when the manufacturer debuted its X6, the world's first Sport Activity Coupe. With a floor plan of the BMW X6, roofline and character of a 6-Series, four seats and five doors, the X6 redefined a notion of a coupe. It was a big-bodied, versatile coupe with the dynamics of an SUV.

BMW is at it again; creating another new vehicle segment coined the Progressive Activity Sedan. The concept 5-Series Gran Turismo was unveiled at Geneva Motor Show this past week and combines the appearance of a BMW sedan with the modern X6 and a classic Gran Turismo tradition.

In order to do this, the vehicle had to create a dynamic and signature BMW driving experience for everyday traffic and short road trips, as well as long journeys. For this, the interior was heavily designed to accommodate spaciousness, luxury and top-of-the line materials such as Glacier white leather. The entryways allow ergonomically ideal access to all seats; the driver-oriented design of the cockpit suggests sporty performance while the slightly elevated seating position promotes good outward visibility. The rear features adjustable legroom and seat angle as well as the same headroom as a BMW X5.

The exterior design is a decent balance of innovation and tradition with dimensions similar to the 7-Series and X6. The length is 196.8" while the height is 61.2" and width 74.8". The distinct look of the new 5-Series GT comes from the long hood, long wheelbase and coupe-like roofline.

For the concept, the paint used is called a Fluid Cuprite, a new color developed specifically for this car. And to provide an appropriate finishing touch, the brake calipers and the inner surfaces on the exhaust gas tailpipes are finished in a new color called Copper.

Other cool new features include a low-slung kidney grille, LED daytime running lights, frameless doors and large flared fenders with 21" wheels.

Another innovation important to the concept is the rear hatch. To stow luggage, the trunk can be opened in traditional fashion or the entire hatch can be opened to load larger objects.
